Create lenses that don't fog up, Canadians say

Many of us know the drill. Every two years we walk into the optometrist's office for an eye exam and often a new prescription. This would be the right time to find out what's new about eyeglasses and which innovations could make our vision clearer and our lives easier.

Take lenses that fog up, for example. As many as 75% of adults polled in a recent survey by Essilor Canada were interested in learning about proven anti-fog capabilities.

Nearly half the respondents also reported feeling unsafe when their glasses fog. Of these, 43 per cent said foggy lenses made them feel unsafe when driving, with an alarming one out of five admitting that this caused them to remove their glasses while behind the wheel.

With this feedback in mind, Essilor developed Optifog technology, a new lens innovation that provides long-lasting, fog-free vision, no matter what the conditions. Those who wear glasses can now enjoy the great outdoors, cook dinner, and drive home with confidence that they won't miss a moment. "Fog can be a problem for glasses wearers year-round. It can occur when drinking a hot beverage or even working, especially in jobs where safety or precision are important, such as a surgeon wearing a mask," says Dr. Lawrence MacAulay, of Armstrong Optometry in British Columbia. "Initial consumer feedback about Optifog has given eyeglass wearers a new-found freedom. They can rely on seeing clearly now in all conditions."
